This holiday season, support our troops with care packages
With the holidays quickly approaching, November is a good time to reflect on those who serve our country far from home. And nothing says “Happy Holidays” like a care package. If you’re looking for a way to give back to our U.S. military service members, a care package is not just a gift but also a way to support and honor our men and women in uniform.
Former Navy Personnel Specialist Ian Schrader recalls his own experience while serving in Afghanistan: “You have no idea what it means to get a care package. Items that may seem small here in the states are a big deal with personnel stationed overseas. A new pair of socks, basic toiletries, snacks, even a pack of gum—the comfort and conveniences of home are greatly missed and always appreciated.”
In the spirit of giving, consider various ways to get involved, such as adopting a soldier, donating items, and sponsoring a package with a financial donation. Check the short list (below) of nonprofit organizations dedicated to this service. You’ll find resources to help you get started.
