A nearby oasis
Located on the western edge of Travis County and part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, Hamilton Pool Preserve is home to the Golden-Cheeked Warbler and to diverse vegetation and rare plant species. But the main attraction is Hamilton Pool itself, a collapsed grotto and canyon formed by water erosion that occurred over thousands of years. Hike down the steep, rocky quarter-mile trail into the grotto, and you’ll begin to hear the rushing waterfall. As you walk across a small suspension bridge, the beautiful pool and the grand amphitheater-like grotto come into view.
It’s strongly recommended that you check the pool’s website for information on swimming, visitor limits, and strict preserve rules.
